Welcome to Maungatua Equestrian!

The home of Golden Strike

Meet Bec Kerr, a horse trainer and coach specializing in dressage and show jumping using Equitation Science principles. She has successfully competed in dressage at level 6, completing Inter1 and PSG tests on her previous horse, Campion KSNZ. Currently, she is focusing on training level 5 dressage with Golden Strike, a beautiful GRP stallion.
Bec also enjoys show jumping and show hunter, with experience up to 1.10m. However, she currently doesn't have a Show Hunter horse to compete on as her 4 yr old-Balou du Precieuse will be ready as a 5 year old to compete. Her main jumping horse is a 6-year-old mare named Mocha by Corofino 11, who is just coming back into jumping after an injury set her out for most of her 5 yo season. Bec's notable achievements include being the Reserve Champion Amateur Show Hunter at HOY with Tiraumea Curious George and winning the Amateur Show Hunter Title at Nationals with Dorofino.
Aside from competing, Bec teaches horse riding lessons to people of all ages and abilities. She also manages agistment on her property and breeds horses, specifically standing Golden Strike at stud. Recently, she started Arbek Pony Stud with three foundation pony mares: Roseglen Aphrodite, TF All Hallows Eve, and Summer Gift. During spring, she assists with calf rearing on her family's dairy farm.
Bec's true passion lies in teaching and helping riders and their horses develop strong foundations, proper rider positions, and correct horse training. She finds fulfillment in witnessing progress and setting her students and clients on the right path for future success.

Bec’s qualifications include a Certificate in Veterinary Nursing, A and H certificates for Pony Club, and a Diploma of Equitation Science, which forms the basis of her training and teaching philosophy.
